Hi everyone,
This a short post in line with my musings through the psalms. I hope you too might receive the encouragement from God's Word that I have so benefited from this morning, sitting at my kitchen bench with a coffee in hand. ("kitchen counter" if you're English? I think? I don't even know anymore.)
Psalm 104 is a magnificent psalm that paints a glorious picture of God's mighty hand in all creation.
v5 - he has set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved
v10 - you make springs gush forth in the valleys, they flow between the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field.
v19 - he made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows it time for setting.
The part that caught my attention this morning were verses 27-30.
These all look to you, to give them their food in due season.
When you give it to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
When you send forth your Spirit [or: breath] they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
I'm so impacted by the image that he is a good God whose hands are filled with good things.
It's humbling to remember that unless we see the face of God, we are all dismayed.
Life itself, the very breath of life, is given and granted actively by the God of the universe.
I am so slow to recognise God's good hand of kingship over everything. When life is tough or when things go badly, I am quicker to be comforted by the fact that He is in control. But amidst the mundane, this truth does not necessarily bring me the wonder and gratitude it ought.
This morning, I'm thanking God that he has shown me His face in his son Jesus. We can boldly approach him, having been made right by the blood of the cross. Friends, we need not be dismayed!
I'm thanking him that this morning, he has given me breath - breath to serve him, to love him, to know him more.
As the psalm finishes: May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD.
I'm praying that you too find great rejoicing in the God to whom all creation looks in praise, honour and submission. I'd be encouraged to hear your own reflections on this psalm, feel free to leave a comment!
Much love
Aimee
